 Jasconius was the giant whale St. Brendan and his fellow monks landed on, thinking it was an island. They lit a small fire on which to cook some food, waking Jasconius who then dove into the water in order to put out the fire on its back. The monks were able to return to their boat before he was totally submerged beneath the waves, and later came back to hold Easter Mass on Jasconius' back.
