Sigmund is a solar hero, the eldest son of Volsung and Liod. He puled the magical sword Gram from and oak tree. All of Sigmund's family was killed by Siggeir, his sister Signy's husband, who was jealous of Sigmund. He eventually was able to avenge their deaths, but Signy was killed in the process.
