Sothis is the Greek name of Sopdet, the personification of the star Sirius. She is the consort of Sah, and the mother of Soped. According to some stories, she is the mother of the star Venus by Osiris. She is often combined with Isis and is then called Isis-Sothis. In art Sothis may appear as a woman wearing a horned head dress similar to the crown of Upper Egypt with a star above it. She may also appear as a large dog. |
